My 335xi is averaging kinda low mpg compared to my previous 135is with the same motor. Yeah the 335xi is heavier, awd, and stick shift, but we’re talking a good 3-4 mpg less. I need to check my air filter. A fresh one is

. But...
One of the items on my way-too-long list of parts I want to get at some point for my 335xi is a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . At $199, it’s “cheap” relative to other intake options for my car, and just like the $13.99 replacement air filter from O’Reilly, it also has an air filter on it!
Stop buying goodies for this car, stop buying goodies for this car, stop buying goodies for this car.
Ah crap.

The only intake I consistently see for these is the aFe magnum FORCE intake. They advertise almost 20hp gains as well, which I find odd since BMW is usually pretty good at designing their stock intakes.

Let’s say the higher weight costs you 1 mpg. Let’s also say the AWD costs you another mpg. And the car is bigger, so needs to punch a larger hole in air. Costing you another mpg.
You’re right at 3 mpg. Your car is fine, your expectations aren’t.

That pic is an N54, mine is an N55. Either way, the BMS intake is $199 where the others are all $350+, and I can’t imagine the more expensive ones make all that much of a difference.

Not that you don’t have sound reasoning, and not that EPA mileage figures are the be-all, end-all, but ...

Here’s aFe’s dyno chart for their $500 intake, for giggles.

Here’s Burger’s dyno for their intake on what is obviously not a stock car what with the intake bumping this car from 342 to 350 whp.
They all make some power, a stray hp here or there isn’t really much to sell me on one over the other.
Eventually I’d like to get the usual bolt-ons for this car (intake, intercooler, charge pipe, downpipe, exhaust) and a tune, and really many combinations of many different vendors’ parts will give similar results. I just want stuff that’s reasonably priced with good quality that doesn’t produce cause negative side effects.

When did you get a 4x4 BMW? When did you get married?

Gas is less than $2 a gallon!
Did you know that the variable intake on a Mazda5 engages at 4500rpm? You do now! Woo!

Burger is displaying crank numbers, which depending on how they’re calculating it out are going to show different than RWHP figures. Now that I look at it, aFe’s dyno seems low for an N55 engine - most would be putting out 260hp or better to the wheels.

I really doubt that’s crank numbers. It’s more likely a modified car, probably with a tune on it. That’s a Dynojet plot, and the stock-intake car is making 396 lb/ft when the N55 335i is rated for 300 lb/ft. Why Burger choose to show the gains from their intake on a modified car rather than an otherwise-stock one is beyond me though.
Point is, there’s no sense splitting hairs over which intake is best, they’re all going to make a bit of power over stock and other things like a tune are really what make power.

I got engaged in April and got the 335xi in May. Not married yet.
